These are difficult times for a lot of people. Money is in short supply while needs abound. It is therefore a huge challenge for many to make ends meet.
Some business people are looking to expand, some are looking for finances to start up, yet others would want to change their line of business if they can just get that extra money and some would love to have a ‘small something’ to bring in additional money.
The million dollar question however remains, where does the money come from?
People have been known to win lotteries and jackpots or to generally come into unexpected wealth.
The ability to manage such wealth lies in being prepared for it in the first place. As the saying goes, ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.’ So, before the money comes, the Next Edition spoke to some people on what they would do if such an unexpected largesse comes their way.
Mrs. Ifeoluwa Akinlolu, an Entrepreneur: “If an opportunity of such comes my way, I’ll be very happy and grateful to God almighty. I’ll draw up a list of things to do bearing first in mind to empower my mum by opening and stocking up a shop for her to manage and not relay on us her children to provide for her. Next on my list will be boosting of my business, support for that of my husband, academic needs of my children and lastly, I’ll think of buying or building a house for my family. All these will be subject to what the conversion of the amount will give me in naira.”
Justin Robert, an Apprentice Barber: “I’ve so many plans but I’m constrained by lack of cash. If given such an amount of money, I’ll probably venture into the business I’ve long desired which is fish farming. I also plan to open a provision store and a barbing salon which is what I am learning now.
“If the money will not but be enough, then the first thing on my wish list is the fish farming. I will try to purchase a small piece of land of my own where I’ll build the fish pond, buy the feed and whatever is left I can try to start up the barbing salon.”
Mr. Oluwakemi Damilare, an Artisan: “The amount is not too big but it might sound huge. How much is the exchange rate? That has to be put into consideration before spending. I am from a poor background; surely the money will help in some ways. I am a cobbler by profession and I am also a writer, I write motivational articles basically on suicide and this money will help me in expanding my business by buying some materials, machines and other things to make my job easier and aid in paying for labour. I’ll employ workers. Part of the money will go into the production of my write ups and I’ll also elevate the standard of living in my family.”
Pa. Sylvanus Udo, Pensioner: “At this point in time, if I have such an amount what immediately comes to my mind is for me to invest in real estates, either buying of land/house in a developing area which will appreciate in due time and when re-selling will double the price of purchase. I might buy a house or buy a small piece of land and develop it for commercial purpose and it will bring returns for me which I can use to develop another business idea. Just as it is said use what you have to get what you want.”

Mfonabasi Akpabio, Corp Member: “Before now, I ventured into Nigerian-made footwear which I have produced but in low quantity based on the capital I had then at hand. If an opportunity like this presents itself, I will be more than happy to invest in the foot-wear by buying materials to produce more, and also create employment for people. By investing the money I can make some profit and other people can also earn a living from there.”
