The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Port Command, has generated N162.7 billion between January and June 2018.
The money recorded is 25.4 per cent higher compared to the amount recorded in 2017.
Last year, N130 billion was recorded between January and June.
Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Musa Baba Abdullahi, made this known at a stakeholders’ engagement.
He said the increase resulted from the different reforms which had improved its activities in different ways.
The reforms, he said, included compensating all compliant consignees, and giving special attention to the processing of their consignments.
His words: “We are deploying multi-layered approach in addressing the issues of compliance which is a major component of trade facilitation, through reward for compliance and also ensuring that compliant declarants or importers are given expeditious attention in line with the presidential directive on Ease of Doing Business.”
He said the command was still working on how best to improve the situation to ensure the promotion of seamless operations.

Abdullahi spoke on seizures and detentions.
According to him, the command seized different contraband goods with a Duty Paid Value DPV, N138.8 million.
He said the command was improving in the discharge of its duties and called on stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities available to draw attention to their complaints so that they could be addressed.
He said the command was also excited about the “steady progress in compliance by the importers and we are optimistic that the trend will continue to show appreciable response.”
