Mr. Calistus Ekenze has been stopped by a High Court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, from being sworn in as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
The order restraining the swearing in was issued on Tuesday.
Following the removal of Eze Madumere by the House of Assembly on Monday, Governor Rochas Okorocha nominated his Head of Service, Callistus Ekenze, as his new deputy.
The majority leader of the House, Lugard Osuji, confirmed the nomination saying “The head of service, Callistus Ekenze, was nominated by the governor.”

According to him, “His nomination has been cleared by the House unanimously. We are only waiting for his swearing-in ceremony.”
He said contrary to the claim making the rounds, “There was no financial or material inducement, to the best of my knowledge. We only carried out our constitutional responsibility. It is an insult to say that lawmakers were given N5m to impeach the former deputy governor.”
