The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Solomon Ogbonna has appealed to Nigerians to register and collect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, in order to elect leaders they want come 2019.
He spoke at a press conference on Saturday to announce the 2018 New Yam Festival celebration of Igbos in Lagos State.
He also called on Igbos resident outside their states but desirous of voting there to go home and register.
He said it was time to end the notion that Igbos do not vote at elections.
His words: “We want to end the belief that the Igbos do not vote at elections. Even if there had been something like that in the past, we want to ensure that it does not happen again.
“We have written to various market leaders in Lagos where our people are trading to encourage members to get the card. We need to be part of the process to elect leaders of the country and the states where we are getting our daily bread.”
Ogbonna, who was newly inaugurated as president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos, said the group had maintained a good relationship with the Lagos State Government, even as he called on Igbos residing in Lagos to live in harmony with their host communities.

In his own remarks, Mr. Cyril Madugba, chairman of Igbo Speaking Communities, Ojo, Lagos Chapter, said a committee had been inaugurated to mobilise Igbos in Ojo to vote during elections.
The continuous registration exercise began on April 27, 2017 and will be temporarily suspended by the middle of August to continue after the 2019 elections.
The exercise is to afford those who could not register during the previous exercise as well as those who turned 18 years after the last registration exercise the opportunity to do so.
