Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the governor-elect of Imo State.

He received the certificate on Wednesday in Abuja, barely 24 hours after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of the state.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who read the judgment declared that the lower courts erred in law when they rejected evidence tendered before them to the extent that votes from 388 polling units were not credited to the APC and Uzodinma.

She therefore ordered the INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return from Ihedioha and issue a fresh one to Uzodinma.
