The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said it has arrested 33 suspected online fraudsters in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
A statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspects were apprehended from their hideout by a combined team of operatives from Abuja and Enugu.
The arrest is part of the anti graft body’s efforts to rid the nation of internet scammers who have contributed in no small way to the dented image of the country.
Recall that 77 Nigerian were listed among 80 internet fraudsters whose names were made public recently by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to Uwujaren, Laptop computers, mobile phones, two Lexus SUV and a Toyota salon car, were among the items recovered from the suspects.
The arrest comes on the heals of the arrest of a Cyber Crime syndicate which specialised in business email compromise in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
