Benue: Troops kill four gunmen in battle

No fewer than four gunmen were killed on Tuesday when the Nigerian troops engaged them in a gun duel.

About 16 others fled.

The encounter occurred at Teguma Village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The soldiers were on patrol when they encountered the gunmen.

In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Texas Chukwu, items recovered from the gunmen were four AK 47 rifles; five 7.62mm rounds of ammunition and 28 rounds of 7.62 police special ammunition.

In his statement, Chukwu said the military remained committed to getting rid of the criminals in the society.

Gunmen, suspected to by herdsmen have continued to invade Benue State killing and maiming.

Despite the deployment of police to the state, the attacks which have continued to claim lives have been unceasing.

The attacks have left many villages deserted with internally displaced persons camp increasing in population.
