The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Makurdi branch has opened a human rights desk urging the public to take advantage of it in case of any complaints arising from violation of human rights.
The Association stated this while commissioning the new Human Rights desk office opened at its secretariat in Makurdi as part of activities to commemorate the World Human Rights Day marked every December 10.
The NBA chairman in Makurdi, Joe Shembe, explained that the increasing violations of human rights in the state is the reason they opened the desk office to offer services on pro bono.
He called for collaboration among the people of the state to enable them fight and stamp out human rights violation.
Declaring the desk office open, former Chairman Human Right Committee, Agbo Madaki, called on the committee to among other issues take seriously, the protection and promotion of rights of the public.

Madaki, Professor of Law also urged the committee to also look at the socio-economic and cultural rights of the people in the course of carrying out their duties.
Chairman of the human rights committee, NBA Makurdi, Amaechi Chukwuma said Nigeria in recent times, is almost becoming synonymous with disobedience of court orders.
He condemned a situation where an arm of government now arrogates to itself the power to decide whether or not to obey a valid court order as was seen in Dasuki, El-zakzaky cases as well as the trending case of Omoleye Sowore.
Amaechi called on governments at all levels to promote and protect the rule of law by ensuring that each arm of government is allowed to function without fear of intimidation by the other arm adding that the fight against corruption should be sustained if truly it is not a witch hunt or selective prosecution.
The committee also took a walk roud some parts of Makurdi town to sensitize the public.
