The Super Falcons of Nigeria have won the 2018 African Women Cup of Nations beating their South African counterparts 4-3 on penalties to clinch its 9th title of the competition.
Nigerian women have won the championship eight times before the latest win Saturday at the Accra stadium, venue of this year’s championship.
This year’s game pitched the defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria against the ambitious and ever confident Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the final match.
The regulation time ended goalless after Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala missed a penalty that would have drawn the curtain for the game.
The two sides also failed to break the deadlock after extra time of fierce battle with South Africans dominating the game.

At the end of the penalty shoot out, the Nigerian side emerged winners by dint of sheer luck. The match ended 4-3 on penalties after 120 minutes of goalless draw.
The road to the finale was not easy as well. Banyana Banyana, overcame Mali in the semi-final, putting two unanswered goals past their opponents. While the Super Falcons walloped Cameroun 4-2 to get to the final.
