A 23-year-old man, Victor Faleye, has been detained in custody at a correctional facility after his arraignment for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl in Lagos.

Faleye, whose residential address was not disclosed, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu on Thursday on a charge related to defilement.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Aminu Isaac, the alleged offence took place around 9 p.m. on or before January 10 at No. 26 Okuno Street, Awono Estate, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Isaac told the court that the defendant is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activity with the minor, which reportedly resulted in pregnancy.

The alleged offence, the prosecutor stated, violates Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate B.A. Sonuga did not record the defendant’s plea and ordered his remand at a correctional centre. He also directed that the case file be forwarded to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.

The case was adjourned to June 30 for further proceedings pending the DPP’s review.
