The Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Bayelsa has commenced a five-day free medical outreach for those displaced by the recent flooding in the state.
The programme was flagged off by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar, on Thursday at Igbogene IDPs camp, Yenagoa.
He was represented by Air Vice-Marshall Napoleon Bali, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Mobility Command.
According to Abubakar, the essence of the programme was to support flood victims in the state.
Medical services to be offered in course of the programme include blood pressure, weight and eye checks, provision of free medicated glasses, laboratory test, as well as free drugs and insecticide treated nets.
“This medical outreach is in line with NAF’s corporate social responsibility and is designed to help in uplifting the condition of living of flood victims in Bayelsa State, who must have contacted some diseases associated with flood disaster, such as malaria, typhoid fever and other diseases.

“The free medical outreach will feature eyes test, glucose test, blood pressure, malaria and other medical operations, and drugs will be administered to them,” Abubakar said.
He urged victims of the disaster in the state to avail themselves of the gesture.
Mr. Aziowie Ayii, Director, Information and Communication, Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended NAF for the gesture calling on stakeholders and other government agencies to tow the same line also, to help in alleviating the sufferings of the victims.
It is reported that over 150, 000 persons in Bayelsa have been displaced by flood in the state.
