Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s brother-in-law, John Abebe, has been ordered to be remanded in Ikoyi prison over alleged case of forgery.
Justice Mojisola Dada, gave the order on Thursday when he was arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The order was pending when Abebe’s bail application would be filed by his lawyer, Mr. Uche Nwokedi.
John Abebe, a businessman, is the younger brother of the late former First Lady, Stella Obasanjo.
During the arraignment at the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, he was accused of forging a November 30, 1995 letter written by BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon (Nigeria) Ltd.
The forgery, according to the EFCC, was the insertion of a statement in the second page of the letter.

The offensive portion reads: “Also note that the ‘Buy-Out Option’ only applies to the pre-production stage of the NPIA. The $4m buy-out is thus irrelevant from production of oil in any of our fields.”
He was said to have tried to pervert the course of justice by tendering the allegedly forged letter as a fabricated evidence in court, in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/224/2010 between Dr. John Abebe, Inducon Nigeria Limited and Statoil Nigeria Limited.
His action was said to be a violation of the Criminal Code Cap C17, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
Rotimi Oyedepo, the EFCC prosecutor, said Abebe allegedly violated Section 126 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap C17, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
He added that the forgery violated Section 467 of the Criminal Code Cap C17, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.
Abebe has however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
