July 3rd, 2025, as the thick clouds had gathered over the coastal city of Lagos and the heavens opened the floodgates for a wet rainy day, the weather was surprisingly benevolent as One Million Tree Initiative had set out on an ambitious mission.
The team arrived into the healing scents of damp earth and blooming flowers enveloped them while the light gentle drizzle on the vibrant green leaves surrounding the park was complete showers of blessings coupled with a symphony of chirping birds and rustling leaves setting the stage for a significant visit.
Dr. Desmond Majekodunmi, a passionate and foremost environmentalist welcomed the representatives of the One Million Tree Initiative (OMTI ) with an open heart and a vision that reached far beyond the horizon during a courtesy visit to him, invigorating the team’s spirits.
It was an awesome time as Dr. Majekodunmi shared stories of his life dedicated to environmental preservation.
He spoke passionately about the importance of trees in combating climate change, restoring ecosystems, and fostering a connection between humanity and nature. His eyes sparkled with conviction as he emphasized the essence of the tree planting project—a gift to future generations.
It was also a robust conversation on all areas of interest on synergy and collaboration towards creating a liveable and sustainable future.
Dr. Majekodunmi encouraged the team on their laudable initiative, noting that “you are not just planting trees. You are planting blessings. You are planting hope for future generations.”
Together, Dr Majekodunmi proceeded on a tour with the visitors through the park’s winding paths as each one savoured nature’s endless gift.
Were they oxygenated? You can say that again. Everyone took in enough oxygen and natural healing elements to last a lifetime. Presumably, I think everyone has enough stored in the bank of his lungs untill another visit.
The team stopped frequently, capturing moments of inspiration: bending down to examine seedlings, snapping photographs of an array of exotic animals and breathing in the vibrant essence of life that surrounded them.
As the visit drew to a close, the team felt invigorated, united in purpose and vision.
With this visit to LUFASI Nature Park, the team carried with them not just the memory of a beautiful day, but the promise of change—a future where lush forests would thrive, where children would climb trees, and where the air would be filled with the fresh essence of life
.
Under the inspiring guidance and physical endorsement of Dr. Desmond Majekodunmi, the dream of planting a million trees got reinvigorated, a new boost and stronger commitment to preservation for the environment had blossomed anew.
