The governorship candidate of Action Alliance, AA, in Imo State, Uche Nwosu has assured the youths of the state that he would be faithful in empowering them because he is one of them.

Speaking at the flag of the governorship campaign in the state on Friday at the Dan Anyiam Township Stadium, Owerri, Nwosu told his supporters that his government would be empathic to the youths, women and the poor because he had lived the life of the poor and knew what it felt like to lack.

He said, “I am here today as your son, not as a privileged child; I’m here as a child that came from a poor family. I’m here as a son and child of a catechist; I’m here as your son.

“While being the son of a catechist, I went through the stages of poverty. I knew virtually all the streets of Aba, not because it was a choice, not because I wanted to do that, but because of the condition I found myself. For many of the youths standing in the sun today, Uche Nwosu once stood in the sun as a boy hawking ice water, fruits, snacks and oranges. Today, I am telling my story. For many of you, youths of Imo state here today, you will tell your story and it will be a success story.”

The governorship candidate assured that he will make the youths of Imo state job creators rather than government job seekers

The former Chief of Staff to the governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, also promised that if elected, his government will offer free medical care to children from 0 to seven years and the elderly from 75 years and above.

Furthermore, he said his government would sustain the free education programme of the present administration and also make the secondary schools in the state ICT hubs.

He urged Imo people to look at his track records as a former commissioner for Lands and Chief of Staff to the governor and choose him as the next governor of the state.

The son-in-law of Okorocha castigated the All Progressives Congress, APC, for what he termed the “injustice” meted to him and his father-in-law and mentor.

“Today, many questions would be asked. Why Action Alliance? Why has a founding father of APC chosen to go into Action Alliance?

“We brought in APC in Imo State when nobody thought that APC was going to win, when nobody thought that President Muhammadu Buhari would be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Then, we were in APGA. Single handedly, with the support of Imolites, we fought and we won.

“Today, I’m in Action Alliance because of the injustice meted on us by the national leadership of the APC. But when one door closes, another opens. I have found favour in AA to run as your governor and on May 29, this year, we shall stand here to take the oath of office together,”

Nwosu also used the opportunity to solicit support for the re-election bid of President Buhari, urging his supporters to cast their votes for him.
