A group call Benue Youth Forum, BYF, has raised an alarm over an alleged conspiracy by three governors and President Muhammadu Buhari security heads to rig the 2019 elections in Benue State.

The group in a statement signed by its President, Kuanum Terrence said they have reliable information that three northern governors and top security officials in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration are involved in the conspiracy to rig the 2019 elections in Benue State.

They alleged that part of the conspiracy is the planned accelerated promotion of the immediate past Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood and his eventual deployment to Benue as Police Commissioner

According to him, the sources revealed that the conspirators have convinced President Buhari that it is only through rigging that APC can have their way in the coming elections because of the towering popularity of the incumbent Governor, Samuel Ortom.

“It was the same group of conspirators that sponsored the failed attempt to impeach Governor Ortom in July last year using eight members of the Benue State House of Assembly. Their anchor man in the state is Senator George Akume.

“We wish to urge the plotters to shelve their evil agenda and allow peace to reign in Benue. Their plan is dead on arrival.

“We want to warn that no one can rig the 2019 elections in Benue State and go scot free. We, youths of the state are prepared to resist impunity of any kind and pave way for free and fair elections”.

The group recalled with pains that Benue was invaded last year by armed Fulani herdsmen, yet the Federal Government whose responsibility it is to protect lives looked the other way and “rather mocked us and danced on the graves of the deceased.

“We will therefore not accept political invasion. We call on President Buhari to dissuade his aides and the said governors from the plot”

The group did not name the three governors but hinted that the governors in question are also seeking re-election.

They warned that the concerned governors should concentrate on their election and leave Benue alone.

They stated that the Benue people have vowed to ensure free and fair elections and therefore, would not allow any external influence from enemies of the state to decide who leads in the state.

They called on Benue people to stand solidly behind Governor Ortom for his resilience in seeking justice for the people just as they urged the Governor to remain resolute until justice is attained for the people.

“We wish to call on Mr President not to be deceived by the words of those bloodthirsty and vindictive vipers around him. If he allows political crisis in Benue State, it will certainly spill over to other states in proportions he never imagined.
He should not let his personal ambition override that of millions of Nigerians.”

They further appealed to political players in Benue to play by the rules of the game to ensure peaceful and credible elections adding that “for those who, out of desperation, have offered themselves as willing tools in the hands of enemies of the state, posterity will judge all of them.”
