Strike: ASUU, FG meet today to resolve issues.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the federal government are scheduled to meet today as part of efforts to end the strike embarked upon by lecturers.

The lecturers have been on strike since August 13 following alleged failure of the federal government to fulfill its promise to the union as contained in Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement on financing of state universities.

Some of the promises border on the conditions of service and the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) among others.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere, the meeting will be held in Abuja.

According to the statement, Ministers of Education and Finance; Chairman, National Income Salaries, and Wages Commission; and the Executive Secretary, National Universities, Commission will be present.

Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU president, will lead members of his union to the meeting.
