The atmosphere here is like a carnival as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are gathered to conduct their national convention where a chairman and other national officers will emerge.

Nigerians have travelled from far and wide to witness this historic event, which may make or mar the chances of the party in 2019 general elections.

One of the people gathered outside told The Next Edition that most of them are waiting to see former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. “We want to see our next president,” as they chorused “Atiku!.”

One of them who simply gave his name as Sanni said that they believed the former Vice President l will alleviate the suffering of the people. “There is poverty in the land. Many Nigerians are suffering. PDP with the return of Atiku has given hope to poor Nigerians like me who are finding it difficult to feed,” he told The Next Edition.

As soon as Atiku walked in there was pandemonium as almost everyone was jostling to see him.

Atiku who is yet to say a word waved at everyone. It was gathered by The Next Edition that he would deliver a speech later in the day.
