Senate confirms seven INEC RECs

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed seven nominees for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They were confirmed following the report of the Senate Committee on INEC.

Suleiman Nazif, who chairs the committee told the Senate only eight of the nominees appeared before his committee for screening.

According to him, Eric Olawale from Osun Stae did not show up and did not give the committee any reason.

Monday Udo Tom, the nominee for Akwa Ibom State, was stood down for “further legislative action,” the legislator said.

The confirmed nominees are Baba Abba Yusuf, Borno State; Lukman Abdulrahman Ajidaba, Kwara State; Segun Agbaje, Ekiti State; Cyril Omorogbe, Edo State; Yahaya Bello, Nasarawa State; Emmanuel Alex, Rivers State; and Mohammed Magaji Ibrahim, Gombe State

Nafiz told the Senate that the nominees were duly cleared by the relevant security agencies – the police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
