There was a big relief on Thursday as the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, announced the suspension of its strike.
The suspension came after a meeting of the executives of the association.
According to the chairman of NARD, UCH, Ibadan chapter, Segun Olaopa, the meeting was suspended because of the need to give government more time to meet their demands among other things.
His words: “The decision was reached following appeals from the public that the doctors should give the federal government more time to meet their demands.”
He added however that in two weeks time, the situation would be reviewed to see how well or otherwise the government had fulfilled their promises.
It would be recalled that the doctors embarked on strike on September 4.
Their action has badly affected activities in public hospitals in the country.
Efforts have since been going on between the government and the doctors to resolve the issues informing the strike.
Appeals had on several occasions gone to the doctors to call off the strike in view of the attendant loss of lives of patients and other consequences.
