Senator Dino Melaye has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over plans by his constituents to recall him.
Melaye represents Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State.
It would be recalled that no fewer than 180,500 registered voters out of the 360,000 of them in the senatorial district had endorsed the recall of the senator.
The electorate said their decision to recall him was based on poor representation in the Senate.
The petition was on Wednesday submitted to INEC by a team led by one Chief Cornelius Olowo.
INEC in a statement on Thursday in Abuja by Mallam Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee of the commission said it would verify the signatures from the Senate on July 3.
He was also notified of the plan by INEC.
But reacting to the development, Melaye said he had already begun a court action against INEC.
He tweeted: “I have filed my case against INEC today at the Federal High Court Abuja today.”
He also displayed the scanned copy of the court document to that effect.
