Police officers and others ranks serving in Benue State Police Command have been advised to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme, (NHIS), to register themselves and their families to enable them access easy and quality medical care.
The Force Medical Officer, AIG Obembe Modupe, gave the advice during her visit to the command headquarters in Makurdi.
The AIG, said her visit to Makurdi was in line with the inspector General, IG, of Police Health Awareness Strategy lunched on the 25th of April, 2019 tagged “Stay Healthy to Secure the Nation.”
She therefore advised officers and men to look after their health no matter how busy they were and to adopt positive life style such as eating balanced diet and exercising to stay healthy particularly those with hypertension and other ailment.
She also advised them to maintain cordial relationships with their colleagues in order to relieve stress. “Relate well with members of the community. Avoid unnecessary provocation that will make you misuse your fire arms,” she added.
She also noted that annual medical check up was very important, stating that one must not fall ill before going to the clinic.
The force medical officer, while reiterating IGP’s strategic health policy, said officers and men of the police force should register their children with the NHIS, which makes them to choose a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), explaining that “the HMO receives the capitation from the National body and gives the money on a monthly basis to the health care facility that you have chosen.”
At the end of the sensitization, AIG Modupe also inspected some of the health facilities at the command in Makurdi where she commended their efforts and called for improvement.
