The opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of violating the provision of the Electoral Act by accepting a group to buy the N45 million presidential nomination form of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  for him,

On Wednesday, a group, the National Coordinator of Nigeria Consolidation Ambassador Network, NCAN,  purchased the form for the president at the party’s national secretariat.

The group explained that its action was informed by the need to make the president continue in office to complete the good work he had started.

But in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the purchase of the form for the president was unlawful.

It therefore called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to within 24 hours hold him responsible for violating the law and sanction him accordingly.

The PDP said it relied on section 91 (9) of the electoral act which states: “No individual or other entity shall donate more than one million naira to any candidate.”

The statement reads:  “Nigerians are aware that the very expensive personal effects, including posh jewelries daily paraded by his close relatives betrayed the gimmick of using an unregistered group, pieced together to execute another failed pro-poor stunt to sway Nigerians…

“Already, our people are daily confronted by the flaunting of affluence and material wealth by the President and those around him, while betraying and abandoning millions of poor Nigerians who, unfortunately, put their trust in him in 2015.

“Since President Buhari has not publicly disowned the purchase of the form by the group, the PDP charges INEC to, within the next 24 hours, hold him culpable and make him to face the appropriate sanctions for the violation of electoral laws.”
