A group, the Follow Better Organisation (FBO), has described as untrue the allegation that Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, the immediate-past Senator for Abia North sponsored last Monday’s anti-Orji Uzor Kalu protest in Abuja.

The group, therefore, gave the ex-Senator a clean bill of health over the protest, saying that Ohuabunwa was neither the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), nor the High Court that convicted him and could not sponsor any protest against him.

It would be recalled that protesters under the aegis of Abia North Concerned Citizens had stormed the National Assembly on Monday, demanding that the seat of the zone be declared vacant following the long absence of their senator, Orji Uzor Kalu (APC), who was on Tuesday released from prison by a Lagos Federal High Court following the Supreme Court nullification of his conviction of N7.2billion fraud charge.

Leader of the group, Chukwudi Chukwu, had while addressing the press, said that declaring the seat vacant would enable the zone to elect another representative, lamenting that Kalu’s long absence at the Red Chamber had rendered Abia North voiceless.

However, All Progressives Congress (APC) and some individuals across the country had accused Ohuabunwa of sponsoring the group that went to Abuja for the protest, saying that he should allow Kalu to be.

Kalu’s ally and former chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Mr. Chibuike Jonas, had accused Ohuabunwa of “solely sponsoring the protest to cast aspersions on Kalu and present him in bad light.”

However, Dr. Ndubuisi Eke, Director-General of Ohuabunwa’s political structure, ‘Follow Better Organisation’, dismissed the allegations by the former council boss as untenable, saying it was “a ranting of a political boot-licker desperate to do anything to retain his master’s favour and patronage.”

He explained that his boss (Ohuabunwa) had long moved on with his life after the Owerri Appeal Court judgment over Kalu’s victory at the 2019 poll and wondered how a person in his right sense would finger Ohuabunwa for Kalu’s ordeals when he was neither the EFCC that charged Kalu to court for corruption, nor the court that convicted him.
