The Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha has said his electioneering campaign was not sponsored by Chika Odionyenma, one of the Nigerian named in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, wire fraud list.

Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Izuchukwu Akwarandu, in a statement on Monday, in Owerri, said those linking Odionyenma’s alleged fraud to the governor were being “mischievous.”

He insisted that as at the time the governor appointed him into the committee to oversee his inauguration, there were no fraud charges against him anywhere in the world.
Akwarandu also explained that the governor attended some of the programmes organised by Odionyenma because they were meant to empower the people and also because Odionyenma was an indigene of the state.

“He (Odionyenma) is an Imo State son and it was in that capacity that the governor attended the programmes that he organised. Moreover, those programmes were meant to empower the people and you know that the governor is a man of the people.

“It is important to note that as of the time the governor appointed him into the inauguration committee, there was no fraud case hanging around his (Odionyenma) neck anywhere in the world,” Akwarandu emphasised.
