NUJ Benue Council Press Week Begins Today

Activities making the 2019 Press week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Benue State Council will today, Friday November 15th, 2019, commence.

According to the programme of events released by the Terlumun Nyifyan-led Press Week Committee, the week will start on Friday with a Jumat Prayer, at the Mosque in Makurdi and feature a walk/health check on Saturday November 16, 2019.

According to the Committee, the walk will commence from City Bay Park through High Level-Ankpa Quarters Makurdi and terminate at the NUJ house.

Mr. Nyifyan who noted that the health check will commence immediately after the walk, said Journalists and members of the public will be tested free for Blood Pressure, HIV, diabetes and Hepatitis B, by health experts from renowned health institutions.

He said on Sunday November 17, 2019, there will be thanksgiving mass for Journalists in all churches in the State while the State Council, leading all Journalists in the state, will attend the Holy Ghost Catholic Church for a thanksgiving Mass.

The press week also continues on Monday, November 18, 2019 with a visit to IDP Camps as well as Ter Makurdi and on November 20, 2019, Prof. Wilfred Uji of the state Teaching Service Board and the Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Mukaddas, will deliver lectures on the theme: “Ending Insecurity in Nigeria Via Objective and Accurate Reportage”.

The day will also feature dedication of the Benue NUJ hall in honour of a former Benue State Council Chairman, Late David Ukuma while members will play a novelty Match in the evening of the sixth day.

The press week activities will be rounded off with a grand finale on Thursday November 21, 2019, with an award/dinner night where notable Nigerians from all works of life; Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, George Ali, Chairman of Otukpo LGA, Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, BSU, Msugh Kembe, Mike Idoko, Vice Chairman, Lobi Stars Football club of Makurdi, the Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj. General Yekini Adeyemi, among others, will be recognized for their contributions in adding value to the society.

The statement signed by the committee chairman Terlumun Nyifyan and the Secretary, Ladi Agbo, appealed to all chapel officials of the NUJ, Benue State Council to mobilize their members to attend all the activities outlined for the week just as members of the public are also enjoined to show solidarity and participate in all the events.
