Awunah assumed duty on the 30th of January 2017.

Though the official handing over ceremony is yet to be performed, Muazu who spoke with journalists in his office, shortly after inspecting a command of guards promised tough times for all criminal elements in the state and reiterated the command’s determination to ensure peace and security in the state.

He said:  “The primary responsibility of police is to maintain peace and security. I am here to provide just that, and I want to assure you that this command will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that Akwa Ibom people go about their normal duties with fear of molestation.

“I am sending warning signals to all criminal elements to start leaving the state because we are ready to curtail their activities and we have the capacity to do so.”

Muazu commended his predecessor in office for the remarkable job he had done to ensure peace and security in the state.

He gave the assurance that he would continue to build on the security legacies already laid in the state.

He solicited the co-operation of all journalists in the state and promised to work with them to ensure peace and stability.

Our correspondent reports that security has not only been beefed up, there has been restriction of movements in major flashpoints of the state.
