“It is with shock that we received the report of the attempted assassination plot on the spiritual director of Adoration Ministry Enugu on Thursday evening by some gunmen who fired gunshots at him on his way along Emene road, Enugu,’’ the statement said.

Mbaka, in the recent time has come under a lot of criticism following a video making rounds on the internet where he insulted the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi, for failing to announce a project he and his principal, Atiku Abubakar will undertake in his ministry or a financial donation to them.

Angered by Obi refusal to budge even after his cajoling and veiled threats of dire consequences for their 2019 ambition, Mbaka, who had earlier said he would make his predictions on the 2019 presidential election on December 31, said there was no point waiting for Dec. 31 and told Obi he and Atiku would be put to shame in 2019.

Many people have described him and his actions as a disgrace to Christiandom and to the Catholic Church in particular, accusing him of extorting people in the name of God.

The Catholic Bishops of Nigeria, under the aegis of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has also condemned Mbaka for his actions and cautioned all priests to stay away from partisan politics and endorsement of candidates for political offices.
