Maryam Bello sent to prison over alleged murder of husband, son of ex-PDP chair

Maryam Bello, who allegedly stabbed her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death over text messages has been sent to prison.

The order to have her detained at Suleja prison was made by a Federal Capital Territory High Court on Friday following the charge of murder against her.

Maryam is the daughter of Maimuna Aliyu formerly of  Aso Savings and Loans Limited while Bilyamin is the son of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Haliru Bello.

She was reported to have murdered her husband over allegation of exchanging text messages with some women.

At the court, counsel to Maryam, Hussein Musa, pleaded that she should not be put in prison custody because of her nursing mother status.

Maryam is nursing a six months old baby.

But to the contrary, the court directed that she be remanded in Suleja prison.

Maryam who covered her face with a green veil, wept profusely in the court.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder against her.

The case was adjourned till December 7.
