The resignation of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday has begun to generate reactions with a call on him to join the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
A chieftain of the PDP and senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, made the call on Friday on his twitter handle.
His words: “I, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, now appeal to Waziri Adamawa, to return to the house he helped build, the PDP.”
Murray-Bruce praised the former vice president, saying he had shown that he had gut.
He commended him for the courage to dump the ruling party which he joined in 2014 ahead of the presidential election which saw the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the senator, Atiku’s businesses had been targeted by the government and could get worse now that he had left the APC.
“I congratulate Atiku Abubakar for leaving the APC.
“It took courage especially as he has wide business investments that are already targets and could be further targeted,” he said.
A former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, also declared his support for Atiku on his twitter handle.
He said he suspected that President Buhari had become jittery over the action of Atiku Abubakar.
He complained of a sharp drop in the quality of governance under the Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

“Dependence on crude is not the problem. Dependence of Buhari’s crude government is the problem. In 2019, we must change the change! I stand with Atiku,” he said.
Omokri also expressed skepticism about the committee the president set up to increase minimum wage. He wondered why Buhari would do that on the same day that Atiku dumped the ruling party.
He said, “On the same day that Atiku resigned from the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari sets up a committee to increase the minimum wage. Coincidence or signs that the president is jittery over his impending 2019 defeat and wants to bribe Nigerians with a salary increase?”
Atiku Abubakar on Friday announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued to that effect, Atiku Abubakar did not state which party he was heading to.
Describing the APC as a dying party, he said it had failed and had continued to fail the people.
The former vice president said his decision to leave the APC was taken after due consultation with God, his family members and supporters.”
