Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on Nigerian journalists to use the opportunity of the coming International Press Institute, IPI, World Congress in Nigeria to promote the nation’s positive developments.

The congress which is meant to be a meeting point for journalists all over the world is scheduled to hold in Abuja in June.

The governor made the call when welcoming the Media and Publicity Committee of the IPI World Congress Nigeria, 2018, which was in the state on advocacy visit.

“The IPI World Congress should be used to showcase the best of Nigeria and its uniqueness as a united and vibrant country despite its challenges,” he said.

Pledging his support for the congress, he said he would sponsor the journalists in Kwara State to the congress.

Speaking earlier, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of IPI World Congress Nigeria, 2018, Dr. Tony Iredia, sought the support of the Kwara State government for Nigerian journalists to attend the event.

He pointed out that the congress would include trainings and interactions with media experts across the globe.

While emphasising the role of the media making  government accountable to the people, Iredia said the congress was a great opportunity to change the narrative of the media for development.

The delegation to Kwara State include the President of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr. Waheed Odusile; Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the NUJ, Dr Qasim Akinreti; Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin; General Secretary, Nigerian Guild of Editors and Secretary, Sponsorship Committee for IPI World Congress, Victoria Ibanga and Mr. Yemi Ajayi, an online media publisher and secretary of the publicity committee for IPI World Congress in Nigeria.

The delegation also visited the National Pilot newspaper, Radio Kwara, NTA Ilorin and the NUJ Kwara State Council office where a special congress was held.
