Coalition of Ibom Political Groups in Abuja, has charged Gov. Udom Emmanuel and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, to ensure the party’s governorship candidate emerges through a credible primary.

The group gave the charge in a statement in Abuja on Friday, signed by its Chairman, Otuekong Ekanem, ​and Secretary Solomon Umana.

The group also appealed to the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, to ensure all stakeholders allow aspirants to freely pursue their political aspirations.

The statement reads: “We appeal to the national leadership of the PDP, to checkmate the State Working Committee of the party to allow all aspirants enjoy a free, fair, credible and transparent process, before, during and after the party’s primary elections in the state.

“We appeal to the NWC of our party in its wisdom, to supervise a credible and timely conduct of elections of PDP delegates at the ward level in the state, and timely publication of delegates’ list that will elect candidates of the party.”

The coalition further called on the party leaders to be guided by the Law in Section 84 (3), of the Electoral Act.

It states that: “A political party shall not impose nomination qualification or disqualification criteria, measures, or conditions on any aspirant or candidate for any election in its constitution.

“Except as prescribed under Sections 65, 66, 106, 107, 131, 137, 177 and 187 of the Constitution, regarding Qualifications of Aspirants and Candidates. (NAN)
