In the bid to stop the killings and ensure adequate security in Benue and Rivers State, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed five more units of mobile police force to the affected states.
Also, helicopters and special intelligence squads have been sent to the states while placing the commissioners of Police and Police personnel in the states on red alert.
In general, across the country, Idris directed that 24-hour crime prevention and visibility patrols should be carried out.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, gave these information on Saturday in a statement issued in Abuja.
He said the new moves were to ensure that Nigerians were protected from the attacks being carried out by suspected herdsmen and other criminals in the society.

He stated further that the Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations had been moved to Benue State to carry out the new security strategies.
His words: “Police Aerial Surveillance Helicopters, Five (5) Units of Police Mobile Force; Police Special Forces have been deployed along with additional conventional Police Personnel, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Police Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) and Special Police Joint Intelligence and Investigation Teams to Benue and Rivers State to work with the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Personnel on the ground.
“This is to bring new impetus to the efforts of the Force to nip in the bud further attacks in the mentioned states.”
Meanwhile, the police spokesman has said that the eight suspected herdsmen arrested at the scene of the killings in Guma local council in Benue State were already being prosecuted.
Six of them, according to him, were already in prison custody.
