The President-General, Mzough U Tiv (MUT), Edward Ujege has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, alleging the Senator representing Benue North West, George Akume, is threatening to kill him.

In the five-page petition to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Tiv tribal leader said Mr. Akume called and threatened him on September 25.

In the letter which was exclusively obtained by The NEXT EDITION and copied to Governor Samuel Ortom, among others, Mr. Ujege said he received a phone call from Mr. Akume after a radio programme in Makurdi.

He narrated how Mr. Akume rained insults on him during the phone call, threatened his life and vowed to tarnish his public service record.

“Senator Akume called me ranting, shouting insults and vehemently threatening my life and my family,” the MUT leader stated.

“He uttered so many things some of which included comments on godfatherism, partisanship and his resolve and determination to expose me and deal with me and my family.

“Sen. Akume emphatically stated that he will blackmail me by fishing for and causing my service records to be tampered with and implicate me.

“And consequently ensure my arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and also cause my election as President General Mzough U Tiv to be terminated.

Mr. Ujege, therefore, urged the IGP to provide security to him and members of his family against any plot to harm them by the former governor.

He has also called for a thorough investigation into the matter to enable the law to take its course.

When this newspaper contacted Mr. Akume on the telephone, one of his aides who picked the call said his principal was addressing a press conference and would be available to speak in 10 minutes.

However, the former governor would not pick subsequent calls to his telephone line and would not revert at the time the report was published.
