The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Friday that former President Goodluck Jonathan is working for it and the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena declared this when he appeared on Channels Television‘s Politics Today.

He also described the PDP as an worthy opposition party.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Diran Odeyemi who also appeared on the programme, disagreed with Nabena’s position saying instead that a number of APC governors would soon join the PDP.

According to Nabena, Jonathan has been working for the ruling party because he is a ‘progressive’ statesman and APC is a progressive party.

Recall that some APC governors recently visited Jonathan on his birthday to felicitate with him.

The visit had led to some bickering between the two parties with the PDP accusing APC of being ‘desperate’ while the APC claimed the PDP was ‘rattled.’

Speaking, the APC spokesman stated, “We are not desperate. Goodluck Jonathan has been working for this government, he has been going to all African countries. If he is not a progressive person, he won’t have been working for this government.”

Recall again that Jonathan was recently appointed as Special Enjoy to Mali by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) where he helped to de-escalate political tension arising from the ouster of the elected government by the military.

In his own comments, Oduyemi insisted that the APC would experience some top level defections in the near future.

He said: “Many APC Governors are talking to us.

“Perhaps Nigerians have not seen the end of these activities. More Governors from APC are coming to join us. And I’m saying it with all emphasis.

“The question we have to ask ourselves is, what has been the achievements of APC now, that will warrant people to join them, if not for selfish reasons? Nigeria knows which party to vote for in 2023 and that’s what we rely on.”
