How to Create Good Impression on a First Date

First dates can go exceptionally well, really bad or somewhere in between. There are certain things about that date you can’t control like the two of you not just having a great vibe or the waiter not serving you well and so on.

On the other hand, there are some parts that are in your control such as the place to go to, the perfect outfit, some conversation starters, etc.

One of the things you can definitely control is making a good impression. Whether the date goes well or sideways, you can create a good personal impression in your partner’s mind.

Here are some things you can do to make sure, you leave a good mark on that first date.

Be on time

You will only get one chance at a first date. You don’t want that impression to be one of you coming late. It’s better to arrive early than fashionably late. It shows you are a stickler to time and there’s truly nothing fashionable about not keeping to time.

Smile

A smile automatically invites the person in and allows him or her to relax. Do it when you sight your date and keep doing it throughout the date.

Listen

Listen; listen to hear and understand and not necessarily to reply. Pay attention and let it show!

Don’t talk about yourself all the time

It goes without saying. Allow your date to talk too. Do not make it all about you. This is a huge no no for a first date. Talk too much about what you have going on without allowing your date chip in and you won’t be getting a second date.

Don’t give away too much

The first date is not the time to talk about the last relationship you had. It’s not also the place to pull up photos of your pets unless the conversation specifically leads there, even then, thread carefully. A first date is getting to know the basics about each other and not your bank statement and passwords. Hold some things close to your chest.

Make eye contact

Making eye contact is regarded as sexy and it tells the person you’re with that you have nothing to hide. Maintain eye contact, especially when your date is talking. Looking around can be a sign you aren’t listening.

Don’t let your attention wander

It doesn’t matter if the people at the next table are having a very interesting conversation, don’t listen in. Your date should have 100% of your attention.

Drop your phone

It’s very rude to have your phone out while on a date. It shows your partner you are not paying attention or he or she isn’t interesting enough. Even if you have a job that demands you check your phone often, try and give your date an uninterrupted 1-2 hours before you go in for the first check and explain what you’re doing before you do it.

Relax, be confident and have fun

Relax. Don’t make the date appear like a chore. Don’t check your watch all the time. (Hopefully it will be a good first date and you won’t need to do that ). Be confident without being arrogant. Your date should know you have a sense of being and of who you are the first time you meet. Don’t check off topics like a list, have fun with it.
