Asien in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Friday said modes of engagement should be changed for children to see connection between gadgets and their studies.
“It’s being observed that the reading culture is dwindling and children don’t read as much as they used to, even adults. But that is probably a generational issue, like in many other areas, things are changing.
“Modes of engagement are changing, so, if we want children to read more, we must bring the books to where they are.
“Children have the platforms they run with, they carry phones about, sleep and wake up with it, so if you want them to read, the books should be available to them on those platforms.
“Most of the energy children have now is deployed to media, phone and all those kits, but we can redirect them to appreciate the value of reading and the importance of using the devices in their hands for reading,” he said.

The NCC boss said that the commission was now encouraging publishers to publish more e-books, we also hope that we can get the educational system and every stakeholder to be able to read e-books.
”So, it also means that the educational system must have a reorientation maybe in the schools, so that they will see the connection in the phone and their studies.
”But what you find today is that we think the best way to make a child read is to take the phone away from him/her and what we end up doing is that we are cutting off a huge aspect of the child’s interaction.
”The future is more in e-books and the government can do a lot by empowering more students to have simple devices that they can read with,” Asien said. (NAN)
