Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has threatened that any private school that goes contrary to the approved academic calendar will face severe sanctions from the state government.
A statement issued by the commissioner in charge of the ministry, Mr. Patrick Ukah, in Asaba weekend, cautioned private school owners on their plans to start online classes for the third term for their students.
He explained that the academic calendar for the second term had not been concluded, stressing that the academic calendar was the same for public and private schools in the state.
Ukah said that once schools were reopened for academic activities, the ministry would release a revised academic calendar for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The commissioner said the free teleclass learning programme on radio and television would continue to run till schools resume for the benefit of the target audience, the students.
He revealed that after due consultations with stakeholders, the ministry encouraged interested students to learn on the alternative online and media channels that might be provided by private institutions of learning.
Ukah also said that following the conclusion of the first phase of the programme on Thursday, there would be repetition of previous topics till May 6, 2020, when the second phase would begin to run with new topics.
