The spokesman of former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Kassim Afegbua, has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force.

Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, made this known in a statement he issued.

According to him, the order for Afegbua’s immediate arrest followed his alleged false statements, injurious falsehood, defamation of character and for act capable of inciting public disturbance throughout the country.

“He is therefore declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force and should report at the nearest Police Station anywhere he is in the country,” Moshood said.

Afegbua had on Sunday issued a statement on behalf of Babangida urging President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest the 2019 presidential election because he had failed to fulfil his electoral promises of changing the society for the better.

In the statement, Babangida was said to have said Buhari should give room for young and dynamic leadership to lead the nation to the Promised Land.

However, shortly after the statement was issued, a counter statement was released debunking the earlier one.

In the last statement signed by Babangida, he said the content of the earlier one was the opinion of the writer, Afegbua.

Afegbua soon appeared on a television programme, insisting that Babangida approved of the statement he issued.

He added that even after the second statement was issued, Babangida called him to state that he stood by the one written by Afegbua.

It is based on the controversial statement that Afegbua has been declared wanted.
