Empowered Vessels for Change Initiative (EVCI), a non-governmental organisation at the weekend concluded a two-day free online self development training for over 200 participants.
The programme, which was held on Friday and Saturday April 3 and 4, was meant to keep people usefully engaged by learning a skill during the lockdown period over the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
Folake Odidi, EVCI President/Founder, who spoke to The NEXT EDITION, said the goal of the programme, which was done online through WhatsApp, was to empower people with the right skills and knowledge to make them useful for themselves and the society.
He said that the programme, which involved several resource people, focused on broader skills which, she said, were key and applicable to various situations and businesses.
These, according to her, included courses like Digital Marketing, Artificial Intelligence, Content Writing and Online Media, which were facilitated by Paul Ibe, an award winning Digital Marketing consultant, and Precious Azuonwu, a social entrepreneur and coach on Personal Development, Digital Business and Social Impact.
Odidi added that Artificial Intelligence Class was facilitated by Emmanuel Odumusi, Founder of Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Network (YALEN), Skill Development lecturer with Institute of Human Resources and Strategic Management, Nigeria and the Administrative Secretary, Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists, Ogun State.
Others courses during the programme, Odidi added, included Content Writing, which was facilitated by Okechukwu Francis, a brand strategist, and Online Media Class, facilitated by Olufemi Damilola, an award winning versatile and media practitioner.

Odidi disclosed that after the programme, the participants were awarded certificates, which she described as a good reference point in the academic history, which could be used for employment purposes.
Egbedimame E. one of the participants, stated: “Being a partaker in this class is something I will never forget. I have no regrets for joining even though it’s a free class.
“It is worth it. If I tell you I didn’t gain anything from this then I’m only lying. There are mistakes I’ve been making which I got to realise in this class.”
Another participant said the class was impactful, eye opening, interactive and a rare opportunity for sharing detailed information that people pay for.
Odidi disclosed that the EVCI would hold more of such classes during the lockdown period, even as she appealed for corporate sponsors and partners to be able to keep Nigerians profitably engaged as they remain at home to check the spread of Coronavirus.
She called on Nigerians to look out for new dates for another training, which she said, would be announced if the lockdown would be extended.
