The lockdown on some Nigerian cities and towns on the directive of Federal Government in the bid to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus may lead to food crisis in the country.
This was the view of Mr. Adetoye Adebola, National Convener, Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), in an interview with NEXT EDITION in Lagos.
According to him, the stay-at-home order had stopped agricultural activities, farmers were not able to go to the farm. He added that food that had been harvested in the hinterland were not being evacuated to the towns and cities.

He said the development would lead to huge losses for many farmers and a steep rise in the prices of food in the country.
He, therefore, called on the government to ensure that the food value chain in the country was not disrupted by making sure that food was taken to the major towns.
The ANN chieftain also called on the government to make sure that vulnerable people in the country did not suffer by distributing food and materials to them.
He also said that the government should do all it could to stop the spread of the virus in the country.
