The new Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, Benue state, Commodore Samuel Chugali has resumed work with a pledge to contribute to the security and socio-economic development of the state.
He is taking over from the out-going Commandant, Ponfa Wuyep.
Speaking to newsmen in his office on Wednesday, his change of command day, Commodore Chugali said Benue, as the food Basket of the Nation, is critical to national food security, hence the need to contribute to her peace and progress.
He said the Nigerian Navy in Benue state will continue to collaborate with the existing security architectures to achieve peace in the state.
Chugali who had earlier met with the state Governor Samuel Ortom said: “I am already feeling like the son of the soil with the assuring words from the Governor for a very wonderful working relationship.
“And as the Governor noted that Navy has been part of the state’s progress, we are going to double our efforts in contributing our quota to ensuring peace and security of the state without which there can be no socio-economic development.
“First, we need to have a very conducive environment for people to go about their duties and there will be progress. It is very important and requires all hands on deck; all the ministries and agencies and security agencies. The Navy has been part of this and I will continue from where my boss stopped. As he has gone today, my work starts and it is going to be a team work” he assured.

He thanked the Chief of Naval Staff for giving him the opportunity to come to Benue to contribute to the manpower development of the Nigerian Navy and by extension, that of the nation at large.
“We are going to collaborate with the existing security architecture and with the support of the Government and the press, we intend to keep the state as safe as possible so that the state can prosper.
Earlier, the outgoing Commandant of the School, Commodore Ponfa Napoleon Wuyep, told the Governor that early relocation of the school to its permanent site will help stave off security challenges arising from communal clashes, militia group and herders/farmers crisis around neighbouring communities.
Commodore Wuyep who stated this when he led the new and incoming commandant, Samuel Chugali, to meet Governor Samuel Ortom in government House, thanked the governor for his support all through his tenure in office.
He lamented that the activities of the school has become limited due to space emphasising that lots more can be achieved if the governor helps facilitate it’s quick relocation by constructing a10km road in its permanent site.
Welcoming the incoming commandant, Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the Navy and the Chief of Naval Staff for the immense contribution to the security of the state and promised he would assist as soon as the economy improves given the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
