President Muhammadu Buhari has written a letter to the National Assembly, notifying the Legislature of his return from medical vacation in London.
The action, which is in line with the country’s constitutional provision, was made known by his Special Adviser, Femi Adesina, in a statement on Monday.
In the letter dated August 21, 2017, according to his spokesman, the president told the Senate as well as the House of Representatives that he was resuming office.
The letter stated in part: “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom.”
President Buhari returned to the country on Saturday after over 100 days on medical vacation.
He left the country on May 7, 2017 shortly after receiving 82 kidnapped Chibok school girls in a swap deal with some Boko Haram terrorists.
He handed over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who acted in his absence.
The president who was received by an overwhelming crowd at the airport addressed the nation in a nationwide broadcaston Monday.
In his speech, he reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the unity of the country.
According to him, the unity of the country is not negotiable.
