The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led committee that probed the alleged involvement of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, in corrupt practices has submitted its report to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The report was submitted on Wednesday by Osinbajo.

Also in the committee are the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno.

Although the committee was scheduled to submit its report to the president on May 7, that was not possible because it was the day the president travelled to London on medical vacation.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the submission of the report at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Osinbajo refused to give an insight into its content.

According to him, it was a number of recommendations which the president was expected to study and act where appropriate.

His words: “It is a fact-finding committee as you know and what our terms of reference were was to find out based on the fact available to us and based on the interviews of witnesses of what transpired in those cases, one involving the SGF and the other the DG of NIA.

“We have now concluded that and we submitted a full report with recommendations to the President.

“We cannot, of course, give you any kind of details because the President has to look at the report, study it and then make his own decisions based on that report.”

However, Osinbajo pointed out that the committee was fair in its approach and was guided by the need to ensure justice.

It would be recalled that Oke and Lawal were suspended in April following alleged corrupt practices.

While the case against Oke was alleged involvement in the stashing away of a whopping amount of money at an apartment at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Lawal has a different case to answer.

Lawal’s alleged crime was the violation of law and due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East.
