No fewer than five policemen were injured in a suicide bomb attack at Muna Garage close to an IDP camp on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State.

This is just as one suicide bomber was killed before the explosive could go off.

The incident which led to policemen sustaining injuries occurred at about 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday, a source who pleaded anonymity, told The Next Edition.

According to him, some of the affected officers were of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Officials of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and some security agencies immediately moved in to help.

The attacks came barely 24 hours after the president directed top security chiefs to ensure safety of lives and property.

At the National Security Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, the president said the safety of the country from internal and external forces should not be compromised.

It was the first time the president held a meeting with the security chiefs after he returned to the country on Saturday from medical vacation in London.

He had, during his nationwide broadcast on Monday, stressed the resolve of his government to ensure that Nigeria remained a peaceful country.
