The Nigeria Union of Joutnalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, has raised an alarm over the vandalization of rail tracks and transformers in Benue particularly in Makurdi, the state capital.
The NUJ made the observation in a communique issued at the end of its June Congress in Makurdi.
The Congress condemned in strong terms what they described as the wanton vandalism of rail tracks in Makurdi and other parts of the State and called on Government and Security agents to ensure the protection of the tracks.
The Congress presided over by the acting Chairman, Mr. Kajo Martins, also lamented the increasing incidence of theft and vandalism of transformers and cables in the State.

The NUJ called on Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), to check the ugly trend and to also look into the continuous increase in electricity tariffs to reduce its effects on electricity consumers.
Congress further condemned the incidence of jungle justice in the State and urged residents to desist from taking laws into their hands but to report such cases to security agents for necessary actions.
The NUJ called on the State Government to ensure that drainage channels in the state are properly desilted to curtail the perennial flooding during the rainy season.
They commended the State government for the two day weekly holiday, Thursday and Friday, given to Civil Servants to enable them engage in farming activities and appealed for prompt payment of salaries for Civil Servants so they can acquire farming inputs and boost their harvest.
The Communique signed by members of the drafting committee, Elias Ityav, Uche Nnorom and Wandoo Achubu, appealed for a special package for media workers as essential service providers to cushion their plight and boost their morale.
