Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has advised corps members who volunteered to work as ad-hoc staff in the Bayelsa Gubernatorial Election to be neutral and shun every form of sharp practices.
Ibrahim gave the advice on Friday in Yenagoa during an interactive session with the corps members, NYSC Directorate and INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
He advised the corps members to abide by the rules of electoral processes and remain non-partisan.
The NYSC director-general said the importance of NYSC and INEC collaboration in strengthening of the nation’s electoral system could not be over-emphasised.
“As you go out as an ad-hoc staff for the governorship election on November 16, make sure you are neutral. Avoid any form of sharp practices.
“Do not violate the electoral laws because if you do, you will face the law.
“First, be security conscious. Abide by the rules of the game. When there is any danger, fight for your life first.

“Avoid any inducement and be patriotic. Do not do anything that can tarnish your image, your parents’ image and the country’s.
“Thank God, you have been trained. Be punctual at your duty post. Do not be arrogant to the electorate. Always comport yourself and do the excellent job.
“Your security is priority, INEC has promised to provide the needful to ensure that you are secured.
“Please, Bayelsa people, election is not war and on this note, I call on well meaning people of the state not to harm my children because of election,” the director-general said.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, commended the NYSC for its support to the development of electoral system in the country.
On Bayelsa gubernatorial poll, Yakubu said that the commission has made every necessary arrangements to ensure security of corps members in all polling units.
“The corps members’ welfare will also be taken care of. I must tell the people of Bayelsa that INEC is fully ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections for the people,” he said.
