Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has warned those fanning the embers of war across the country to desist from such sinful acts, saying what the country needs at this time is not division but prayers to move it forward.
The Senator stated this at his constituency briefing and empowerment programme held Thursday at the Ikot-Ekpene Township Stadium.
Akpabio who is the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State said despite the pressure in other parts of the country, Nigeria was not yet hypertensive.
“The heart of this country is in Abuja, I want to assure that Abuja is safe, it is really sad that there is pressure all over the country. There is no pressure in Abuja, the political pressure is part but the country is not yet hypertensive.
“Therefore this is the time for all of us to pray for our great nation and our president and the Senate. All hands should be on deck to move this country forward,” he said.
The senator lauded the good people of Ikot-Ekpene senatorial district for their support without which he would not have been in the position and his colleagues’ senators for the honour done him.
He stated that he had not disappointed them stressing that it was a rare privilege for the district to be given the position of Senate Minority :eader in the National Assembly.
Akpabio said the constituency briefing and empowerment programme was not an avenue for political mobilisation but to set the template for others because according to him the era of absentee senator had gone.
The senator who endorsed Governor Udom Emmanuel for 2019, lauded his administration for consolidating on his achievements in the area of provision of project and good governance.
In his good will message, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who was represented by Senate Minority Whip, Senator Phillip Ajudua, commended Senator Akpabio for connecting with his people.
He also thanked the people of Ikot-Ekpene senatorial district for their support and encouraged them to continue to support their leaders at all levels.
In his remarks at the occasion, the state governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, who welcome the visitors expressed appreciation to Akpabio for connecting with his constituents on a daily basis.
Governor Emmanuel remarked that Nigeria was only sick economically not politically, stressing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would continue to maintain its leading position in the country.
