A total of 23 people were hospitalized following the crash landing of an Ural Airlines flight en route from Moscow to Simferopol in the Moscow region, the Russian Health Ministry said in a statement.
“As a result of the crash landing of an Airbus en route from Zhukovsky to Simferopol, 23 people, including five children, were hospitalized,” the statement reads. “They are considered to be in serious or fair condition,” the ministry added.
Meanwhile, Ural Airlines Director General Kirill Skuratov told TASS that all passengers willing to continue their trip to Simferopol would be taken to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport after they went through medical examinations. “We are ready to put families with children on the next available flights. A reserve aircraft will arrive in Domodedovo in the afternoon,” he said.
The plane that made a crash landing was significantly damaged and won’t perform flights in the near future, the airline said in a statement.
A probe has been launched into the accident, spokesperson for the Moscow Inter-Regional Transport Prosecutor’s Office Yekaterina Korotkova told TASS.
An Airbus A321 made a crash landing near Zhukovsky International Airport in the Moscow region earlier on Thursday.
According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, the plane struck a flock of birds shortly after takeoff. There were 226 passengers and seven crew members aboard the aircraft.
