The Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has described as “unguided comments” the latest criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

In obvious reaction to the criticism of Buhari by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the governor said such criticism by prominent Nigerians were merely self-serving.

He also described them as mere publicity stunts meant to make them look like saints while covering up for their decimal performance when they were in public offices.

According to a press release signed by Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Al-Sadique, the governor made the statement on Thursday while commissioning projects executed by his administration at the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board.

The governor observed that there was no country in contemporary history “that made massive economic intervention since the Marshall plan than Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He therefore wondered why such criticisms had to wait until the policies had already started yielding dividends.

“President Muhammadu Buhari came into office at the most trying moment of the nation’s history. His rescue mission was able to get the nation out of recession in less than two years and somebody is saying the economic policy of the president is a failure.  That person is the exemplary failure,” the governor said.

Abubakar said the foreign reserves of the country had been raised to over 40 billion USD, with increase of nearly 35% over what the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari inherited when it came into office in 2015.

While commending the president for getting the country out of recession under two years, the governor urged other Nigerians to continue supporting the president in his selfless drive to return the nation to the path of greatness, and disregard the statements of “self-acclaimed social critics.”

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had on Tuesday condemned the Buhari administration saying it had failed to live up to its billing.

According to Obasanjo, hunger and poverty had refused to reduce.

He therefore advised Buhari not to contest the 2019 presidential election since it had become obvious that he could not take Nigerians to the Promised Land.
