President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the amendment to the Electoral Act which makes the presidential election come last in the 2019 general election.
The amendment of the Electoral Act was carried out by the National Assembly, and conspicuous in the change is the re-ordering of the 2019 election sequence.
Unlike the order by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which placed the presidential election first, the amendment has made it to come last.
As re-ordered by the Legislature, the National Assembly election is to hold first, followed by gubernatorial and state assembly polls.
With the amendment, President Muhammadu Buhari and other presidential candidates in the 2019 general election may face a herculean task to win.

However, in a letter to the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the president said the amendment was a violation of the rights of INEC.
As it is, the National Assembly my override the president’s action to have its way.
It would be recalled that some All Progressives Congress, APC, legislators had led a protest against the amendment by the National Assembly, arguing that it was targeted at putting Buhari at a disadvantage during the coming election.
